About this Event
All DIYD workshops have Pay What You Can ticket options.
If the Full Cost Ticket is financially comfortable for you, we ask that you purchase this ticket to help DIYD offset the costs of workshop expenses.
If the Full Cost Ticket is a stretch for you at this time, choose a lower cost ticket that suits your financial capacity. Choose the “Pay What You Can” option to purchase a ticket for as low as $1.
If you would like to make a donation to DIYD, choose the 125% cost ticket option or use the Pay What You Can option to make a donation of any amount. (And thank you!)
For more information about how DIYD uses the revenue from ticket costs, scroll down to our FAQ section below.
About the Electrical 101 workshop:
This workshop will teach attendees how to identify the elements of a breaker panel and different types of electrical wiring in a typical Cincinnati home. After watching a demonstration of an outlet replacement and learning about the fundamentals of a few basic, common electrical circuits found in a home, attendees will get hands on practice safely replacing switches and outlets while adhering to best practices and the national electric code.
Lead Poisoning Hazard Disclaimer: All home renovation work can create a significant lead hazard if completed in a pre-1978 home. DIYD will provide Lead Poisoning Prevention resources to any workshop attendee living in a pre-1978 home. DIYD also hosts a lead safety class twice a year - we highly recommend that you sign up for the lead safety class before you complete these projects in your home if your home was built before 1978 and you have young children living in your home.
About the teacher:
"I was born in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio and moved to a small farm in southern Ohio just before the start of my six grade school year. I’ve always been naturally inquisitive which led to my post high school education in the sciences. My father was a master electrician and I began helping him at a young age wiring house on the weekends. In addition during my summers away from college I worked with my cousin (a general contractor) and brother, roofing houses and renovating kitchens / bathrooms. My wife and I moved to Cincinnati in 2001 and while starting our family, began to acquire houses in the area. I maintain and renovate all of our properties myself and enjoy raising my children in the West Price Hill community."
About Do It Yourself Darlin Workshops:
Do It Yourself Darlin (DIYD) hosts educational, hands-on home repair workshops for new and veteran homeowners, renters, and everyone in between. The program aims to empower anyone and everyone to feel comfortable and confident understanding the components that make up a house while learning home repair and tool use skills along the way. All of DIYD‘s workshops are geared toward beginners, pay-what-you-can, taught by local Cincinnati craftspeople, and open to everyone ages 16 and up.
DIYD is a program of the non-profit CDC Price Hill Will. DIYD’s programming is made possible through grant funding, sponsorships, donations, and workshop ticket sales.
