El Tango Café tells the story of one man’s experiences upon stumbling into a beautiful tango cafe filled with friendship, love and heartbreak.
First premiered in August 2014, the 2026 remount will be our first physically integrated tango theatrical production– featuring both disabled and non-disabled dancers. Since 2019, Tango 21 Dance Theater has been developing and creating a system of physically integrated dance techniques for social Argentine tango. Under the direction of co-founders Liz Sung & Jorge Niedas, this system focuses on transposing traditional tango sequences and maintaining connection between the follow and the lead. This work has been made possible in collaboration with company member Robby Lee Williams, guest artist Ladonna Freidheim, and founding company members.
Immediately following the show, audiences are invited to participate in an introductory tango class for both seated and standing dancers. EVERYONE is welcome to dance!
Experimental Station is wheelchair accessible.
ASL interpreted performance on July 19th, Sunday.
Please email [email protected] with access questions or requests.
Access services made possible by ReinventAbility.
