This Fourth of July weekend, join El Cine for an evening of revolutionary cinema exploring liberation, resistance, self-determination, and the ongoing struggle for freedom across borders.

Curated by filmmaker Chica Barbosa, Declaring Independence / Declarando Independencia brings together a selection of experimental, political, and anti-colonial films from across the Americas that challenge official histories and imagine new possibilities for collective liberation.

This is a donation-based screening.

All proceeds will benefit Palestina Animada, an initiative that directs funds from screenings toward supporting filmmakers and animation artists in Gaza.

At a moment when questions of freedom, belonging, and self-determination continue to shape lives across the globe, these films invite us to reconsider what independence means—and who gets to claim it.
