Egyptian Hieroglyphs Workshop at The Haunted Bookshop

Join us for an extraordinary workshop where you will learn to write in the magnificent Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs just like generations of Egyptian mystics and Pharaohs of the past using the pictorial elegance of the ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

The adaptation of hieroglyphs into simplified symbols is widely considered the ancestor of the Ancient Greek and subsequently Latin and ultimately the English alphabet we use today. In this workshop we will have the opportunity to:

✨ Learn about the history of Egyptian hieroglyphs
✨ Write your name using basic transliteration of Egyptian hieroglyphs with the letters of the English alphabet
✨ Create a personalised name cartouche for luck and protection using Egyptian hieroglyphs
✨ Decorate your cartouche with ancient Egyptian symbols embossed with a gold finish
✨ Dance like an Egyptian (optional)

Participants will be presented with a selection of calligraphy nibs, pens, ink, gold finish and papers and will have the opportunity to chose from a variety of writing and colouring materials to help personalise their creation.

No past experience in calligraphy or knowledge of hieroglyphs is necessary, step-by-step guidance will be provided throughout by the host. By the end of the workshop you will have a basic understanding of the history of Egyptian hieroglyphs, to try basic calligraphy techniques and make a personalised cartouche with your name in Egyptian hieroglyphs to take home with you as a memoir

This workshop will have limited capacity of approximate. The event will take place at the wonderfully enchanting atmosphere of The Haunted Bookshop, home of mystery, folklore, supernatural and spiritual literature.

This is a first installment of a series where we celebrate the most renowned ancient civilizations and their legacies the various writing techniques by applying a modern creative twist.
