Zeidy and Badrawi have travelled to the far corners of Egypt – from the Nile Valley to the Mediterranean Coast, across deserts and mountain ranges – to discover the diversity of its food, culture and people, including communities that speak a language other than Egypt’s native Arabic, like the Siwans in the Sahara or the Nubians in Upper Egypt. “Since recipes are handed down through generations by mouth, many are disappearing forever,” says Zeidy. “We set out with a mission to explore and preserve these precious traditions.”
“Conventional travel in this country generally focuses on the Ancient Egyptian civilisation,” Badrawi adds. “But the most profound way of getting to know people is by seeing how they cook and what they eat, so there is something for everyone in this book.”

We're thrilled to announce that the authors of this remarkable new book, which fills a longstanding gap among English-language cookbooks, will be sharing their experiences travelling through Egypt, learning about its historic and contemporary foodways, and presenting them in this stunningly comprehensive tome.
Joining them in conversation will be Edinburgh local Caroline Eden, a multi-award-winning writer, literary critic, and author of much-loved food/travel writing gems Cold Kitchen and Red Sands.
The talk will be followed by a book signing and Q&A, as well as a dazzling mezze spread prepared by Suzanne and Rawah.
