Let’s have a fun first go at an egg swap to help connect poultry enthusiasts, encourage learning, and share genetics.
Spectators welcome, just hop in the check-in line to get a special name tag, hangout, observe the swap, and meet local breeders.
Please keep in mind, no sales are allowed onsite.
Here is what to expect:
Eggs will be displayed on the tables so everyone has a chance to look through the selection before the swap begins.
Participants will swap in the order they arrive.
At check-in, you’ll receive a name tag with a number, which will be your place in line.
Next, drop off two eggs from each breed or variety you wish to offer for a fertility check at the designated table next to the check-in line.
These eggs are separate from your swap eggs and do not count toward the number of eggs you are exchanging.
Participants who consistently submit infertile eggs over multiple events may be asked to improve flock fertility before participating in future swaps.
We plan to begin the egg swap approximately 15-30 minutes after the start time. This gives everyone time to get checked in, chat, browse the available eggs, and make sure everyone has arrived.
Rules and guidelines to help everyone enjoy the swap:
‐ Bring only fresh, fertile hatching eggs that are preferably less than 7 days old.
‐ Eggs should be clean and unwashed.
‐ Please clearly label every egg (pencil or food grade ink is best) and disclose if eggs come from project birds, mixed breeds, or experimental crosses.
- Paper labels will be provided on site to detail the breed, collection date, and your name and farm name, if applicable, alongside your carton.
‐ Bring enough empty egg cartons to collect the number of eggs you contribute during the swap (does not include the fertility check eggs).
‐ Do not handle any eggs on the swap table unless you intend to select them. Please be respectful of other participants and their contributions.
‐ Once you pick up an egg from the swap table, the swap is final.
‐ Participants assume all responsibility for incubation and chick care.
- As much as we would love to see your birds in person, please do not bring live birds to the gathering. (Creating a photo album specific to the swap to share parents/siblings is encouraged!).
‐ Event hosts and volunteers do not guarantee fertility, hatchability, breed accuracy, or the health of exchanged eggs.
‐ Please treat fellow participants with kindness and help create a welcoming and educational environment for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who commented that they are interested in participating!
We’re excited to see this gathering bring poultry enthusiasts together, and we look forward to watching it continue to grow with each future get together.
Feel free to share photos of your parent stock or the eggs you’ll be contributing in the comments!
See you there!
