To provide people managers with the knowledge and confidence to understand the spectrum of Mental Health and Mental Ill Health and to be able to spot common symptoms and behaviours in themselves and other team members. It will highlight the factors that can affect mental health and will explain that the Mental Health Continuum is extremely fluid and will change with life events. The aim is to train the Manager in gaining understanding of how they can practically help a colleague or team member who may be struggling with a Mental Health condition. This practical session will focus on using the right approach for the circumstances, opening up an effective conversation, using correct language, breaking down stigmas, barriers and discrimination in the workplace and as a result, the Manager will have greater clarity as to the different steps that can support themselves or their team into recovery

· Understanding & acknowledging behaviours of a person who may be struggling
· Being equipped to break down stigmas and discrimination
· Using the correct approach, language and by leading by example as a Manager
· Empathetic listening skills – how to listen properly and pick up clues (verbal and non-verbal)
· How to open the conversation
· How to have an effective conversation – using open questioning techniques and checking understanding
· Confidently supporting and signposting a person
· Recovery – factors to consider
