About this Event
In a time of political polarization and civic fatigue, how can everyday citizens work together to make democracy deliver? Join Chris Hand, attorney, author, and former Chief of Staff for the City of Jacksonville, for an engaging discussion on how effective citizenship can bridge divides and strengthen our communities.
Drawing on lessons from his book America, the Owner’s Manual: You Can Fight City Hall and Win (co-authored with former U.S. Senator and Florida Governor Bob Graham), Hand will share practical tools and real-world examples of how people have successfully influenced public policy, improved their neighborhoods, and held government accountable.
Hand’s decades of experience span federal, state, and local government, including leadership in major civic reforms, economic development, and historic justice initiatives such as the Groveland Four Clemency Coalition. His perspective combines legal insight, public service, and a deep commitment to citizen empowerment.
Whether you are an elected official, community advocate, student, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, this conversation will help you understand your power as a citizen and how to use it effectively in today’s divided democracy.
