Each year, typically in May, TNC and partners need volunteer snorkelers to help collect eelgrass seeds off the shore of Oyster, VA.About this Event
By signing up here, you'll get on the list to receive additional details about eelgrass seed collection. We need volunteer snorkelers to collect eelgrass seeds as part of the largest successful seagrass restoration project in the world. Read more at www.nature.org/SeagrassRestoration.
Anticipated Timeline
- Now: Get on the list to receive updates on eelgrass seed collection dates by registering here.
- April: continued communication and recruitment of interested volunteers. Staff in the field will begin checking eelgrass meadows for seed ripening status.
- Early May: anticipated dates sent out to volunteers.
- May: dates become “more certain” based on timing of seed ripening (weather dependent)
- Mid/Late-May: likely eelgrass seed collection! We've collected as early as May 4th and as late as June 6th. For close to a decade seed collection has taken place the last week of May.
Special note: Eventbrite requires a specific date when creating registration pages and we arbitrarily picked May 12. You are ONLY SIGNING UP TO GET GET MORE INFORMATION about this opportunity. We won't know actual volunteer dates until closer to early May.
