Edwin Poole: St.Catharines Master Photographer Presenter Will MacEachern of the St.Catherines Museum
The presentation focuses on early photography in St. Catharines, and how St. Catharines came to be a hotbed for photography at the turn of the century. The presentation talks about the history of photography, early photographic processes and features many images of the local area taken by local photographers in the early 1900’s. It also dives deep into Edwin Poole’s life as a professional photographer in St. Catharines from 1877-1921. We will also learn about his equipment, his studios, and see examples of his work.
Will MacEachern is the photographic collections technician at the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre. He spearheads the cataloging and digitization of the museum’s photographic collections, including the St. Catharines Standard negative collection that consists of over 600,000 negatives from 1936-1998. He also conducts photographic research for the museums exhibits and programs and assists members of the community with photographic research projects. Will has been with the museum since 2015.
Will has an undergraduate degree in Canadian History from Wilfrid Laurier and a post graduate diploma in Museum & Gallery Studies from Georgian College.
