Manual therapy has been included in the speech pathology literature since 1980 (Aronson), with studies showing its effectiveness beginning in 1993 (Roy and Leeper). Yet the majority of SLTs receive little exposure to it at university or on the job. Current models of manual therapy view its effects as far more than changes at the tissue level and instead see it as another form of communication, with neuroplasticity principles at its core. Join me this September in Edinburgh to explore how this approach can enhance your practice.
The nature of this work is that success comes not from a technique, but from allowing that technique to be uniquely personal for each person to whom it is applied. It is through the relationship we build and the feedback we gain from following an exclusionary model of care that our work becomes personal. In each workshop, I tend to see participants moving rather quickly through each technique sequence, finishing up and waiting for what's next. But it is through time and patience that context is noted and established. As you begin incorporating the class concepts, keep this in mind: this work is less about the specifics of the technique we apply and more about how we modify it to address the specific needs of our patients.
There are numerous fine models to study manual therapy from, all of which add value. Learn more about this two-day training at www.WaltFritz.com and see what sets this approach apart. Early Bird discounts are in effect.
The Advanced class immediately follows the Intro class (Sept. 10-11), with the Intro class as a prerequisite. That prerequisite can be taken in-person or online.
