Join Heather Houskeeper, "The Botanical Hiker", in exploring the array of edible and medicinal plants. Heather will provide valuable methods for confident identification, ethical harvest, and easy preparation. Edible and medicinal plants can be found from urban to wilderness landscapes. Many may be found in your own backyard, in the garden as common weeds, or in other natural places you frequent. Learn how to transform these wild plants into delicious snacks, medicinal teas, and home remedies. Our walk will conclude with a medicinal tea tasting highlighting a plant we've met! The walk will be easy to moderate in nature with many stops along the way to meet the plants. Please note that this walk is educational in nature and that no plants will be harvested from the grounds. The class is limited to 12 people. The class will take place on Heather's land and on nearby Pinchot family land (Gifford Pinchot, the Father of Conservation) in the Milford Experimental Forest. Exact locations will be provided to participants as the program nears.Heather Houskeeper, "The Botanical Hiker," is an herbalist, author, and founder of the School of Plant and Place Connection in Milford, Pa. Heather has hiked thousands of miles on long-distance trails - including the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine - identifying, exploring, and foraging wild plants along the way. She is the author of three plant-inspired books and the Wild Food columnist for Dirt Magazine. Heather believes plants are a conduit for connection with the natural world, and that by attuning to nature, we foster individual and collective wellness.
