For the past 10 years Richard has spent part of every year working on the Atlantic coast. This has been aided by the conversion of a Mercedes Luton van, which he adapted into a mobile studio with a bed. This enabled him to produce the work directly in the landscape and follow a purely intuitive, unstructured journey entirely dictated by the needs of the paintings. The latest body of work to be presented in this talk stems from recent working journeys from west Ireland to the northern tip of Orkney. At the request of the David Messum gallery in London, Richard produced a book from his written journals to go with the work, which provides the basis of the evening.
Join us for an immersive evening that conveys the experience of life behind the making of the work, including a recital of a cycle of poems written on the journey alongside the paintings.
