Edel Rodriguez: From Page to Stage

Join us for a special evening celebrating the work of Cuban-American artist Edel Rodriguez, featuring performance, visual storytelling and film.

The program highlights Worm, Rodriguez’s first graphic novel, a powerful political memoir, presented through a theatrical performance in which actors bring elements of the book to life, animating the graphic novel through live reading and stage performance.

The evening also includes a screening of the award-winning documentary Edel Rodriguez: Freedom Is a Verb, directed by Mecky Creus and Adrienne Hall. Created for the PBS American Masters series, the film explores Rodriguez’s life and work as a Cuban American artist known for his children’s books and striking satirical magazine covers. The documentary has won 10 Best Documentary awards and has screened at numerous Oscar-qualifying festivals.

We welcome you to an immersive evening where graphic art moves from page to stage, blending documentary film and live performance to explore the life and work of Edel Rodriguez.

About the Artist

Edel Rodriguez is a Cuban-American artist who has exhibited internationally in New York, Los Angeles, Havana, Berlin, La Paz, Cape Town, Prague, and London. A regular contributor to The New Yorker, , and Time magazine, he has created over two hundred magazine and book covers and illustrated several children’s books, including Sonia Sotomayor: A Judge Grows in the Bronx. His work is part of major institutional collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, and has earned numerous awards from the Art Directors Club and the Society of Illustrators. Worm is his first graphic novel.
