Welcome to Ecstatic Dance Kansas City! Ecstatic Dance is a beautiful freeform dance movement that started on the big island in Hawaii in the year 2000 and is now global. If you are new ~ please read through the universal guidelines below as they create the container for such a powerful experience.I'm thrilled to welcome DJ Sage Farris who is currently on an Ecstatic Dance tour gracing the dance floors of Ecstatic Dances far & wide with his soundscapes and incredbile energy. Hailing from the one and only Lake Tahoe and now based out of San Francisco, Sage regularly serves as a sonic shaman all over the west coast festival, club and ecstatic Dance worlds.
Eclectic. Fearless. Passionate. If art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time. For Sage, performing is so much more than just putting on a show - it's about telling a story. It's about invoking emotion and enriching experiences. It is prayer; it is ceremony; it is presence and freedom. To heal we must feel all the feels, and Sage is here to facilitate through the medicine of music. It is a privilege to be of service. Never one to pick a lane and stay in it; no two sets from Sage are ever alike. Always created in the moment by spontaneously collaborating and creating with the dancefloor to concoct a truly unique experience. Never predictable, Sage always aims to keeps dancers on their toes.
Expect the unexpected!
His musical journeys integrate all tempos and all genres of electronic dance music; as well as the occasional throwback classic. His selections are drenched in vibrant percussion, sultry bass lines, addictive harmonies, a flair for tribal heartbeats and offer infusions of electro-swing, disco, hip-hop, R&B, soul, funk, remixed classics spliced with global influences. It all yields a tapestry of sound that engages the entire spectrum of human emotion. All emotions are beautiful. When we feel safe to be vulnerable and express ourselves, that is true intimacy.
Sage has shared the stage with an eclectic array of top-notch Artists such as David Starfire, Desert Dwellers, SOOHAN, Scott Nice, The Polish Ambassador, Alex Cruz, Mystic Grizzly, Eli & Fur, Mz. Worthy, Lee Reynolds, Volo, SkiiTour, The Sponges, Gettoblaster, Oona Dahl, Paul Oakenfold and Rinzen.
An accomplished Ecstatic Dance DJ, he has led journeys in Nevada City, Grass Valley, Oakland, Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Bend, Santa Cruz, Chico, San Francisco, Boulder, Denver, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Lake Tahoe and Reno. Earlier this year Sage performed at Gaia Dance Temple and Eagle’s Nest at Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Sage will be returning to the lake for New Years to perform at Embodiment festival.
And speaking of festivals, Sage has performed at Stilldream, Kausmic, StarVibes, UnSCruz, Maya Gathering, By The People, Serenity Gathering, Fresh Tracks, Organic Fest, Santa Cruz Music Festival and Soulplay.
Sage is also a resident DJ and music curator for Burning Man camp Sound Garden, which in 2025 welcomed over a 100 artists including David Hohme, Alex Cruz, Beat Kitty, David Starfire, Equanimous and The Polish Ambassador.

4. Using Substances (No drugs/alcohol. We get high on DANCE)
Brief History of Ecstatic Dance:
Ecstatic Dance (with it's roots in 5 rhythms) was birthed in Hawaii in the year 2000, and is now a world-wide movement found in almost every major city. It combines the freedom of a festival experience with the awareness of a conscious dance practice. The Ecstatic Dance guidelines (listed above) are Universal guidelines. Although each Ecstatic Dance around the globe is unique, these guidelines connect the web of all Ecstatic Dances around the world together as one.
Our Schedule Flow:
1) We open up with a movement practice, like yoga, to wake up & warm our bodies before dancing.
2) Our 2 hour Ecstatic Dance journey is fascilitated by a professional DJ. Although each DJ offers their own unique style, all Ecstatic Dance sets are crafted to flow like a WAVE, beginning very slowly (ambient) to warm up, and slowly increasing in speed and intensity as the set continues, eventully coming to a to a high point or PEAK before gradually coming back down again to a very soft meditative ambiance at the end.
3) We close with a Sound Healing. This is sometimes a musical performance, a song, a singing bowls sound bath, a guided meditation, or a breathwork session.
Ecstatic Dance is a sacred and safe space for you to be your unique authentic self in an open, loving, judgement-free container that celebrates you for being you. All are welcome!
Thank you with all my heart for your continued support. Ecstatic Dance KC has been going for 9 years! This community started out as a little seed that has been consistently tended to, watered and nourished by all of us. It is a collective co-creation and it continues to grow and thrive. I'm touched deeply by the beauty of this community.
I first discovered Ecstatic Dance in 2008 and I was hooked, dancing twice weekly in Northern California for 7 years straight before moving to Kansas City, and seeding it here to not only continue to receive the medicine I so needed, but to also offer that to others. I knew the power of Ecstatic Dance and how important it is. It has truly been one of the greatest gifts and honors of my life leading Ecstatic Dance in KC.
The gifts of this practice and community have been onging and profound. It is my absolute joy and pleasure to share this magic as it has changed my life in truly countless positive ways (and still does!) THANK YOU with all my heart for being a part of this. This is my welcome home to you. Home to your global Ecstatic Dance family, and home to yourself.
