About this Event
Ecstatic Dance Newburgh at The Ellis
Ecstatic Dance is a freeform movement experience, where you can move as you wish and let your body move naturally to the rhythm and grooves.
Join us on Saturday, November 1st, 12–3pm, as we transform The Ellis into a sanctuary of sound, flow, and embodied freedom. The journey begins with yoga guided by Ellie Zeitlin and Amy Frances Fraher of Newburgh Yoga Shala. The afternoon continues with a DJ set by Omar Aena accompanied by live drumming. The experience winds down with an immersive sound journey by Jessica Caplan.
Hosted in collaboration with Dance Lab and Newburgh Yoga Shala, Ecstatic Dance Newburgh is a Hudson Valley experience unlike any other — a fusion of conscious movement, live music - sonic and somatic alchemy. This is more than a dance, it is a ritual and a release – a safe space to express yourself and surrender to the body’s natural flow. Freshly made juices will be offered by The Ellis to nourish you throughout the afternoon.
Whether you are stepping onto the floor for the first time or returning as a devoted mover, come to release, awaken, and connect. Let your body remember what words cannot capture, and leave carrying the rhythm in your bones.
Ecstatic Dance Newburgh Guidelines
- Keep the dancefloor safe: Respect yourself and the others you share the dancefloor with. People are welcome to dance together, but we honor consent. If you’d like to dance with another person, do so from a spirit of generosity, not expectation. Any form of touch must be fully consensual. Invite another with a hand gesture that shows you’re open to dancing with them.
- Alcohol-free: Movement is its own form of medicine. The energy of alcohol is not aligned with the essence of Ecstatic Dance. We invite you to explore your inner landscape free of alcohol.
- No Speaking on the Dancefloor: Ecstatic Dance encourages communication through movement rather than words. Letting go of speech opens new channels of emotion and expression that words often restrict. Allow yourself to connect with others through your dance.
- No phones: We give our phones enough attention throughout our lives. Leave it aside and be fully present.
- No photos, no videos: What unfolds in this space stays in this space. To create an experience where everyone can move and feel freely—without self-consciousness or fear of being seen—we ask that no photos nor videos are taken during the event.
- Barefoot (or Socks) Only: To stay connected to the ground, protect everyone’s feet, and keep the floor clean, we require that everyone please dance without shoes. Socks or indoor-only dance shoes with approval are welcome.
- Be Authentically YOU and only YOU: This is a space free of judgment. Let your body express whatever it needs—joy, sadness, or anything in between. Follow the rhythm, let movement lead, and allow every part of yourself to be seen and felt. All of you is welcome in this judgement-free space.
