Columbia Ecstatic Dance is now a recurring event! We dance on the fourth Saturday of every month, and feature a live DJ at every dance. If you’re looking for a the wildest, most inclusive, safe sober party for your Saturday night expression, look no further than Columbia Ecstatic Dance! Come actualize and circulate the healing power of dance community. If you are new, be sure to read the guidelines below. August 23rd will be the second dance offering from Columbia Ecstatic Dance, facilitated by Lo Down and live DJ’d by Lazuli of Kansas City!! Come join us for an evening of genuine connection, sweet beats, abundantly positive vibes, and delicious, authentic expression. No dance experience necessary! Come as you are, and let the music do the rest.
Location:
The dance will take place in the main sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbia (UUCC), a devoted space full of natural light and evolutionary energy, where the DJ is at the pulpit!

Dance lab: 6:30-7:00PM (group connection, grounding, and warm-up)
Ecstatic dance: 7:00 - 8:30PM

3 SIMPLE PRINCIPLES
1. We Dance without shoes (or: We Dance Barefoot)
This allows us to connect more fully with the Ground (socks are OK).
If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK.
2. We Dance without words (or: We Dance with Body Language)
This makes it easier to be in a Meditative State.
No Verbal Instruction from the Facilitators during the dance.
No conversation on the dance floor (verbal connection in the foyer and outer spaces OK)
3. We Dance as We Are
No Drugs/Alcohol, No Phones, No Camera/Video, No Scents, No Expectations, No Judgements, No Shoulds, No Oughts… Just Be Yourself; With Respect for Ourselves, the Space, and One Another.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF ECSTATIC DANCE:
Ecstatic Dance is a beautiful freeform dance movement that started on the big island in Hawaii in the year 2000 and is now global. The above guidelines are universal to the ecstatic dance movement and help to ensure a safe, authentic, and meaningful experience for all participants.
My name is Lo, and Ecstatic Dance has saved my life. It is my honor to offer my energy, in return, to the facilitation and service of the dance. This community dance practice has profound, holistically therapeutic benefits that can be experienced in just one session. It is a personal, meditative journey on which we learn to love ourselves fully, and in doing so, inspire and ignite one another. There is no limit to our co-creative capacities!!
CED is a safe, judgment-free container for you and your body to be exactly where you are, within a supportive community and expertly crafted music to guide your dance journey. All ages, genders, abilities and backgrounds are welcome in the reincarnation of this ancient container.
