About this Event
In this 2-day workshop, we will be diving into the history of Indigo and its use in dye, art, and ceremony in the Americas.
INFORMATION - history of Indigo ecology, usage & cultivation, including ethnobotanical anecdotes regarding folk use & application methods.
PREPARATION - facilitators will guide participants in creating an Indigo vat and preparing fabrics for dyeing.
EXPERIMENTATION - you will create personal pieces of fiber art, using a variety of techniques to create patterns and stories on fabric.
Please bring a washed / cleaned white cotton, linen, or silk shirt, scarf, small altar cloth, yarn, or other piece you would like to dye.
We will also provide pieces of fabrics.
prior to the day of the workshop for instruction on how to scour / clean your fabrics to prepare them for dyeing.
NOTE :
you have the option to buy a 2-day pass for both days which include
- July 27 & August 10 - the full immersion including history, preparation of the vat and fabrics, and dyeing + storyweaving
OR
you can buy a 1-day pass for DAY 2 which includes
- August 10 - dyeing your fibers
We highly recommend the 2-day pass for a more thorough and comprehensive experience as it includes the vat preparation which is a key process for establishing intimacy with the color and chemistry of Indigo.
