Echoes on West Okoboji: A Journey Back in Time
About this Event
Echoes on West Okoboji invites guests to experience the rich and often untold history of West Okoboji through a guided historic tour with local historians and the Lakes Area Museum Alliance. As the Queen II glides across the water, local historians Jonathan Reed and Mary Dreier will share lesser-known stories of the legendary steam-powered Queen and the early days that shaped the Iowa Great Lakes.
Since roughly 1884, steamships carried generations of visitors across these waters, fueling the growth of resorts, recreation, and community. Today, the Queen II continues that tradition and represents the vibrant tourism and energy of the Lakes Area.
During this special fundraiser hosted by the Lakes Area Museum Alliance, guests will explore historic sites along West Okoboji while discovering how transportation, tourism, and entrepreneurship transformed the region into Iowa’s premier summer destination. This is more than a boat ride. It is a return to the era of steam, story, and the spirit that built the Lakes.
Guests will receive a limited-edition commemorative booklet featuring rare early photographs and lesser-known stories from the Iowa Great Lakes region.
A premier catered brunch is included, with a cash bar available throughout the event.
All proceeds support the preservation and storytelling efforts of the Lakes Area Museum Alliance.
Boarding starts at 9:40 AM and departure is at 10 AM.
