Continuing Mountainside’s mission to bring the experience of earlier music to our community, we’re delighted to announce that MBQ Board Member, Matthew Riegel, will again lead participants in an engaging experience learning to read and sing Gregorian chant—a further edition of last season’s well-received “Chant-Along.”
In this "interactive experience," attendees get to make the music.
We kick things off with the "introductory segment" at 3:00 p.m. This segment is designed for the beginner. You'll learn to read "square note" and get some tips on styling along with some history. We'll be using a chant-as-you-learn approach, in which you'll be singing right away, building step-by-step from the simplest chant lines to the more complex. This segment ends by 4:00 p.m.
Following a break for refreshments, those interested in digging in deeper are welcome to stick around for our "chant challenge" segment. Everything ends by 5:00 p.m.
No prior experience necessary. Novices and veteran chanters both welcome. There is no charge, though a donation basket will be available for those so moved.
If you are a veteran chanter, please do come to the "introductory segment" as your voice will help your neighbor, but, if you can't make it at 3:00 p.m., show up by 4:00 p.m. for the "chant challenge."
