Nina McIntire, along with the City of Lead and Lead Historic Preservation, would like to respectfully emphasize the extraordinary nature of the July 5th music-historical multimedia event currently being prepared for Lead’s celebration! This is not a regular performance or a repeatable program—it is a truly one-time artistic and historical presentation created specifically for our community.
For the first time, the history of Lead will be experienced through a fully integrated artistic form combining live music, rare archival photographs, contemporary imagery, and visual storytelling, where music revives history, reshapes perception, and creates a deeply human connection to the story of Lead and its people. Through this musical presentation, history becomes an emotionally lived experience rather than simply an observation of the past. The program offers a powerful new way to connect identity, heritage, memory, and community on a deeply emotional level.
This event is further distinguished by a unique live performance on the historic century-old Steinway Grand Piano, which has belonged to the Lead community for generations and is now housed at the high school. The music has been specially composed and selected for this occasion to reflect the spirit, atmosphere, and historical evolution of Lead.
A significant amount of engagement, creative thought, preparation, research, and collaboration has gone into this project. We truly appreciate the work being done behind the scenes and the cooperation between Historic Preservation, Homestake Opera House, Historic Black Hills Studios of the Fassbender Photographic Collection, Lead-Deadwood High School, and the City of Lead.
Many meetings, research visits, and countless hours have gone into making this a meaningful one-time event in Lead’s history.
This is a CALL to all people interested in regional history, culture, community connection, and local heritage—including visitors to the area- to mark your calendar for this unique opportunity.
Because of its one-time nature, this event represents a rare cultural moment for the community—one carrying both historical and emotional significance. We believe it deserves strong visibility and focused promotion so the broader public has the opportunity to participate in and experience it.
Mark your calendars and tell your friends, you are not going to want to miss this special event!
