Echo Vocal Ensemble: EQUINOX
About this Event
Equinox is an immersive choral experience that lives on the edge of night. Echo Vocal Ensemble explores darkness not as absence, but as energy - charged, unpredictable, and alive. Expect the group's unique blend of stunning choral music, folksong and improvisation in one of London's most special venues.
Special guests London Youth Choir join the nine "sublime, spirited…completely assured" voices of Echo Vocal Ensemble.
About the artist
Echo Vocal Ensemble is an adventurous group of singers known for their flexibility, innovation and excellence. The group has performed at Queen Elizabeth Hall, at Sadler’s Wells, as Ensemble-in-Residence at Ryedale Festival and live on BBC Radio 3.
The ensemble first met as part of Genesis Sixteen, the young artists’ scheme run by The Sixteen, and has gone on to develop a reputation for innovative programming and multi-disciplinary work. Notable collaborators include poet Roger McGough, choreographer Gregory Maqoma, visual artist Polly Apfelbaum and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Their debut album, INNOCENCE, was described by Gramophone as being “crafted with skill, flair, understanding, passion and respect for the traditions to which they belong...brilliantly conceived and executed". The ensemble launched the album at London’s Wigmore Hall and the disk went on to be nominated for Best Newcomer at the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2025.
Under the direction of dynamic conductor Sarah Latto, Echo aims to explore the full range of what ensemble singing can achieve, including improvisation and audience-immersive concert experiences. Most recently, the group was ensemble-in-residence at St Magnus International Festival, and collaborated on an improvised sound installation with artist Hans Rosenström at the Helsinki Biennial.
Bjorn Strandenes
Echo are delighted to be collaborating in this venture with the renowned Norwegian artist Bjorn Strandenes, who own work focusses on themes of darkness and light. An exhibition of Bjorn's work will feature in parallel to the concert. More details to be announced shortly.
