About this Event

For the first time in 18 years there is a competitive election for the position of District Attorney of East Baton Rouge Parish between Hillar Moore and Ryan Thompson. The community is invited to attend the candidate forum and hear directly from those seeking your vote. The EBRP District Attorney Candidate Forum will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 6pm at the South Branch Library, 2210 Glasgow Ave., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808. Light refreshments will be served.

The East Baton Rouge Parish (EBRP) District Attorney leads the 19th Judicial District Attorney's Office, serving as the chief prosecutor and public safety officer representing the state and parish in criminal, juvenile, and civic legal matters.

Core Responsibilities

Prosecution: Charge and prosecute felony and misdemeanor violations of state laws within East Baton Rouge Parish.

Case Evaluation: Review police reports, evidence, and arrest records to decide if formal criminal charges are filed.

Parish Administration: Manage the office budget, administrative staff, investigators, and Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs).

Victim Support: Oversee specialized victim assistance and advocacy programs for crime survivors.

Law Enforcement Collaboration: Partner with local police and sheriff departments to coordinate effective criminal investigations.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education: Earn a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Licensure: Hold an active license to practice law in the State of Louisiana and be in good standing with the state bar.

Experience: Possess substantial criminal trial experience and background in prosecution or criminal litigation.
