Join Green Cambridge for a community walk focused on recording local bird populations with Cornell Universities eBird!
About this Event

On Friday, June 12th, Green Cambridge is holding a guided walk in the Alewife Brook reservation using Cornell University's eBird. This project lets birders from around the globe submit observations that help track migration and inform conservation efforts.

Green Cambridge will provide educational materials to assist with observation and a limited number of binoculars; participants are encouraged to bring their own.

  • Location: DCR Parking lot, 2-8 Acorn Park Dr, Cambridge, MA 02140
  • Date: June 12th , 2026 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM(Eastern Time)

Parking and Transportation info:

  • We will be meeting at 2-8 Acorn Park Drive, Cambridge, MA 02140. This is in front of the DCR parking lot, which has free parking specifically for the Alewife.
  • If this lot fills up there is parking at the MBTA Alewife Station for a fee; the station also makes the area very accessible via the Red Line.
  • Ride the Redline inbound to the last stop at Alewife Station, exiting the station, you are able to walk along Steel Place Drive towards the reservation and turn onto the second left marked by a DCR Alewife Brook Greenway sign. Walk down this path until you find the DCR Alewife Brook Reservation Kiosk (in total a 5~7 minute walk).

We will also be using Cornell's Merlin Bird ID app to identify species.Instructions on how to use both apps will be provided but we encourage volunteers to download the apps beforehand and look over the provided instructions below! (E-bird, in particular, has a very informative introduction guide on submitting observations.)
