The Cutty Sark is the world's only surviving tea clipper — a ship that once raced from China to London with holds full of tea, setting speed records that made her famous across the maritime world. This Easter, she becomes the setting for one of Greenwich's most creative family activities: an egg trail that turns the ship's history into a code-breaking adventure.

The Royal Museums Greenwich Easter Egg Trail runs aboard Cutty Sark from 3–6 April 2026. The story: Cutty Sark's chickens have gotten loose and laid eggs around the ship. Your mission is to hunt them down, find all 11 letters hidden on eggs scattered across the vessel, and unscramble the secret nautical code. Crack it, head to the café beneath the hull, and claim a chocolatey reward — courtesy of Mars.

It sounds simple, but the trail is genuinely well-designed: it takes kids through sections of the ship they might not otherwise explore, weaving between decks and discovering fascinating facts about Cutty Sark's historic voyages along the way. The ship is spectacular up close — you walk beneath the hull (suspended dramatically above you), explore the cargo hold, and see the figurehead and rigging at close range. The trail just gives young visitors an extra reason to look carefully at every corner.

Cutty Sark was built in 1869 and was one of the fastest sailing ships of her era, completing the London-to-China tea run in record time. After a devastating fire in 2007, she underwent a major restoration and reopened in 2012, now permanently berthed at Greenwich Pier. She's a Grade I listed building and one of the most visited ships in the world.

The trail is free with ship admission: £22 for adults, £11 for children aged 4–15, under-4s free with a paying adult. Royal Museums Greenwich members get unlimited free entry.
