About this Event
Join Let's Go 1-2-3, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, and the School District of Lancaster for a beautification and clean-up event at Hands Woods. Spring is a great time to celebrate Earth Day and clean up our environment, plant for wildlife, and help our community beautify and care for our wild greenspaces! Hands Woods is located behind Jackson Middle School and George Washington Elementary School (see map). Parking is available at the schools or along the street. This is a family-friendly volunteer opportunity.
Please sign up to help us clean-up Hands Woods and plant more natives.
Volunteers are needed to:
- light pruning to trees/shrubs and cut back herbaceous vegetation
- remove invasive species and build brush piles
- add 15-20 native plantings to restore a woodland edge
- mulch plantings with wood chips
- trash, litter and stick pickup
What to bring:
- water bottle
- shovel (for digging and moving wood chips) or pitch fork
- gloves (extras provided)
- hand pruners and/or loppers (for minor pruning and cutting back vegetation)
- a smile (required)
Please note: Extra shovels, gloves, PPE supplies, buckets, trash bags, and a few wheelbarrows will be onsite. Volunteers are encouraged to dress for weather and wear protective shoes.
