Round the Bridges & Wetlands Loop
Date: Sunday 28th June
Time: 2pm
Meeting Location: Aramoho Shopping Centre Car Park, near the Kaikokopu Rd entrance
Difficulty: Easy
Distance/Time: 4-5.5km / 1-1.5hrs
Elevation Gain: 26-45m
Leader: Monique
Dogs Allowed: Yes
For this walk, we will run the loop between the railway and Dubin Street Bridges, which makes up the shorter option for this walk. Before turning off for a walk up a bush track up St Johns Hill and back down past the Te Punanga Ripo Wetlands for the longer and more hilly option
(Easy) Shorter Walk – Round the Bridges: Railway to Dublin
Route: Both walks start together from the Aramoho Shopping Centre and cross the Railway Bridge. They then head alongside the river and cross back over on the Dublin Street Bridge. From there, the route follows the Somme Parade Riverside Pathway on the city side of the river to return to the Aramoho Shopping Centre. The last 5 minutes will be self-guided after the longer walk turns off toward St Johns Hill.
Fitness Requirements: This route suits most walking abilities. It is just under 4 km long, features a wide, even surface, and is mostly flat, though it includes a few small hills and a couple of short, steep sections.
Distance / Time: 3.8 km / 1 hour
Elevation Gain: 26 m
(Easy) Longer Walk – Round the Bridges & Wetlands Walk
Route: The longer walk follows the same route as the shorter walk until the Somme Parade Riverside Pathway climbs back from the river (between Russell and Spier Streets). Here, it turns off and heads toward St Johns Hill, climbing up the dirt track behind Cullinane College. It then heads back down past the Te Punanga Ripo Wetlands and follows local streets to return to the Aramoho Shopping Centre.
Fitness Requirements: To complete this walk, you should be able to walk for 1.5 hours with some uphill sections. Some areas are uneven and can be slippery.
Distance / Time: 5.5 km / 1.5 hours
Elevation Gain: 45 m
