Join us for a vibrant community celebration of life, memory, and culture through art, tradition, and collective healing.
Día de Muertos: A Community and Heritage Celebration is a public art installation and cultural program honoring the rich traditions of Día de Muertos — a joyful and sacred celebration rooted in pre-Hispanic Mexican heritage that honors our departed loved ones.
Led by artist Miriam Alarcón Avila (Luchadora Art) in collaboration with South of 6, and funded by Johnson County, this event features:
A large, collaborative community ofrenda (altar)
Free community workshops throughout October to make paper flowers, papel picado, and calaveritas.
Cultural performances, music, vendors, and face painting on November 1 and 2.
Saturday, November 1
12–2 PM — Ofrenda Opening Ceremony
Music by Noryli Villada
Free Food
2–9 PM — Visit the Ofrenda
Sunday, November 2
10 AM–1 PM — Visit the Ofrenda
4–5 PM — Skull Face Painting
5–8 PM — Music & Dance Performances + Free Food
Featuring Fuerzas Culturales Ballet Folklórico de Cedar Rapids and Noryli Villada

Día de Muertos: Una celebración comunitaria y herencia cultural, es una instalación de arte público y un programa cultural que honra las ricas tradiciones del Día de Muertos, una celebración alegre y sagrada arraigada en la herencia prehispánica mexicana que honra a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos.
Dirigido por la artista Miriam Alarcón Avila (Luchadora Art) en colaboración con South of 6 y financiado por el Condado de Johnson, este evento incluye:
Una gran ofrenda comunitaria colaborativa (altar)
Talleres comunitarios gratuitos para hacer flores de papel, papel picado y calaveritas.
Presentaciones culturales, música, danza y pintura facial el 1 y 2 de noviembre.
