Casa de Rosado Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month & 29 Years of Día de los Muertos in Lansing Amid Funding Shifts
Lansing, MI — Aug 30, 2025— Casa de Rosado Galeria & Cultural Center proudly kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month & announces the 29th celebration of Día de los Muertos. For nearly three decades, team members who have served as a cornerstone for Latinx, Chicanx, Afro Caribbean, and Indigenx communities in Michigan, now offer a space & funding for remembrance, artistry, and cultural continuity.
This milestone comes at a time of dramatic funding shifts. Recent changes in federal arts funding have eliminated support for Hispanic Heritage Month and Día de los Muertos programming. Despite this, Casa de Rosado remains steadfast.
“Community members of Lansing celebrated Día de los Muertos when no one would sponsor us,” said Theresa Rosado, Artistic Director of Casa de Rosado. “We have celebrated out of our own pockets and out of love for our community. This year, we continue that tradition — because this celebration belongs to our people, and we will not let it be erased.”
The 29th celebration honors decades of memory, resilience, and cultural pride. Casa de Rosado invites the community, artists, and allies to participate in commemorating this significant milestone at our center for weekend workshops available for free or on a donation basis- decorate a sugar skull, create a Catrina/Catrin, cut Papel Picado Mexican Paper Craft, make a mini memory nicho for a loved one, fold a Papel de cempasuchil paper craft flower, pull a Gelli print in the technique of Mexican print maker Jose Guadalupe Posada.
Casa de Rosado Galeria & Cultural Center is located at 204 E Mt Hope Ave, Lansing, MI will open its center to visitors for drop in workshops on Saturdays & Sundays from 1pm to 5pm during Hispanic Heritage Month starting on Saturday September 20, 2025 until Sunday Oct 19, 2025. Each weekend we will have various drop in and scheduled workshops to participate in on a donation basis. Watch for our Facebook page for registration links soon!
