Srdečně zveme do Galerie Fotografic na letní dvojvernisáž ve znamení sugestivních zahraničních projektů! V hlavním prostoru představíme výstavu Plexus německé umělkyně Eleny Helfrecht, která ve vizuálně podmanivých fotografiích rozehrává znepokojivou hru o historických i rodinných traumatech. Prostor pro médium pohyblivého obrazu pak pohltí unikátní projekt Benevolence belgického umělce Karla De Cocka, který ve frenetické videokoláži s nadhledem nastiňuje genderové stereotypy klasického hollywoodského filmu. Německá umělkyně Elena Helfrecht v projektu Plexus zkoumá téma historického traumatu a vyrovnávání se s minulostí. Institut rodiny zde vnímá jako klíčového hybatele psychologických procesů, v nichž se nevědomě zrcadlí kolektivní dějiny a fenomén postpaměti. Po smrti své babičky se vrací do rodinného sídla v Bavorsku, kde jejich starý dům proměňuje v surreálné jeviště a archivní materiály v protagonisty alegorické hry, kterou rozehrává v zneklidňujících zátiších.
Autorka se noří do fragmentární historie ženské linie své rodiny a bílá místa paměti zaplňuje sny, asociacemi a fiktivními scénami, čímž vytváří vizuální esej překračující osobní i národní hranice. Její fotografie diváka pohlcují podmanivou vizualitou, která se vzpírá racionálnímu výkladu, ale vnitřně se opírá o skrytou logiku absurdity. Obyčejné předměty a temné interiéry domu se stávají symbolickými zástupci pro zkoumání duševního zdraví, válečného dědictví a neustálého cyklení rodinných vzorců chování.
Elena Helfrecht (*1992) studovala na Humboldtově univerzitě v Berlíně a na Royal College of Art v Londýně. Její fotografie publikovaly prestižní časopisy jako The British Journal of Photography nebo The New Yorker. Unikátní projekt Benevolence belgického umělce Karla De Cocka vstupuje jako další samostatná výstava do našeho prostoru pro médium pohyblivého obrazu. Expresivní audiovizuální dílo zkoumá genderovou dynamiku a vztahové vzorce v klasickém hollywoodském filmu.
Autor ve své videokoláži organicky prolíná a vrství záběry ze stovek filmů ze 40. a 50. let a nechává je rytmicky až epilepticky problikávat přes sebe, čímž vytváří hypnotický vizuální tanec. Celá kompozice přitom extaticky graduje podle schématu tradičního milostného příběhu: začíná zdánlivě nevinným dvořením a honičkou, přechází v dramatické napětí či nátlak a nakonec vrcholí pompézním gestem ochromující lásky a absolutního odevzdání. Prostřednictvím této rafinované filmové choreografie autor rozebírá tradiční hollywoodské narativy a odhaluje skrytou mechaniku zažitých kinematografických konvencí, které po generace spoluutvářely naše vnímání reality. Karel De Cock tak poukazuje nejen na dobové normy, ale nastavuje zrcadlo i současné popkultuře, v níž tato romantická klišé v různých obměnách skrytě přežívají dodnes.

In her project Plexus, German artist Elena Helfrecht explores historical trauma and the confrontation with the past. She perceives the institution of the family as a key driver of psychological processes in which collective history and the phenomenon of postmemory are unconsciously mirrored. Following her grandmother’s death, she returns to her family estate in Bavaria, transforming the old house into a surreal stage and archival materials into the protagonists of an allegorical play, which she unfolds through unsettling still lifes.
Immersing herself in the fragmentary history of her female lineage, the artist fills the gaps of memory with dreams, associations, and imagined scenes, creating a visual essay that transgresses personal and national boundaries. Her photographs absorb the viewer with a captivating visuality that defies rational interpretation, yet inherently relies on a hidden logic of absurdity. Ordinary objects and the dark interiors of the house become parabolic proxies for an investigation into mental health, the legacy of war, and the continuous repetition of inherited family behaviors.

The unique project Benevolence by Belgian artist Karel De Cock enters our moving image space as the next solo exhibition. This expressive audiovisual work explores gender dynamics and relationship patterns in classic Hollywood cinema.
In his video collage, the artist organically interweaves and layers shots from hundreds of films from the 1940s and 1950s, letting them flicker over one another in a rhythmic, almost epileptic pulse, creating a hypnotic visual dance. The entire composition ecstatically progresses according to the framework of a traditional love story: starting with a seemingly innocent chase, it moves into dramatic tension or coercion, and ultimately culminates in a pompous display of overwhelming love and absolute submission. Through this refined cinematic choreography, the artist deconstructs traditional Hollywood narratives, revealing the hidden mechanics of enduring conventions that have shaped our perception of reality for generations. In doing so, Karel De Cock not only highlights the norms of that era but also holds up a mirror to contemporary pop culture, where these romantic clichés endure in various forms today.
