Dvorak, New World Symphony, Mendelssohn, Hear my Prayer
About this Event
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States, the Lafayette Musicians invite you to an exceptional afternoon of music, faith, and celebration.
Inspired by our desire to share our Faith through the beauty and power of music, we will open the concert with Felix Mendelssohn’s magnificent sacred work, Hear My Prayer. Its celebrated “O for the Wings of a Dove” will feature the Lafayette Musicians Children’s Choir, bringing together the purity of young voices and the richness of Mendelssohn’s deeply spiritual music.
The celebration will then continue with one of the great masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire: Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World.
Written during Dvořák’s years in America, the New World Symphony remains one of the most powerful examples of the fascination that American musical traditions inspired in a great European composer of the nineteenth century. From its unforgettable melodies to its thrilling final movement, Dvořák created a work that bridges the Old World and the New — making it a particularly meaningful choice for this historic American anniversary.
This will be the Lafayette Musicians’ most ambitious and spectacular concert of 2026, bringing together orchestra, choir, and children’s voices for an unforgettable musical celebration.
Join us as we celebrate 250 years of the United States of America through faith, music, and the joy of coming together.
