Duwamish River Marine Debris Removal with International Coastal Cleanup!
About this Event
Joins us for our monthly garbage clean up along the Duwamish River.
This month we are partnering with Puget Soundkeeper Alliance and the International Coastal Cleanup to remove plastics and marine debris from Puget Sound beaches. Be part of an international event to clean up our beaches and watersheds, via the International Coastal Cleanup: https://oceanconservancy.org/work/plastics/cleanups-icc/
Volunteers will help collect marine debris, as well as count, weight and document trash that we find along the river to report to the ICC!
Agenda: After making introductions and a safety talk, each person will receive a seat on a tandem sit-on-top kayak, a partner if needed, and a PFD before setting out on the water in groups with the support of a power boat. We will be paddling to locations only available by small watercraft. We will exit boats and pick up debris around Kellogg Island, and nearby shorelines between the West Seattle Bridge and First Avenue Bridge.
You are more than welcomed to bring your own kayak, canoe, or SUP. Please still fill out the waiver below.
This is rated as an easy paddle, and you will always be in a group. We will experience the last meander of the Duwamish River, near the Duwamish Longhouse. On the tour, we will likely see Osprey, Eagles, Seals, Purple Martins, Terns and other wildlife. Old sneakers or water shoes are recommended since you will be getting in and out of the boats to get trash on slippery and muddy surfaces, for safety reasons, no crocs or flip flops are allowed.
