Duped: AI and the Making of a Global Su*cide Cult

Join us for an evening with the Monastic Academy's Head Teacher Soryu Forall. Through a Dharma Talk, guided meditation, and Q&A, we will explore some of the most urgent questions of our time:
(1) Are AIs conscious?
(2) Should AI be aligned with human values?
(3) How can we teach wisdom and compassion to these entities?
As AI continues to evolve, these questions are not just philosophical—they are critical to the future of humanity. Viewed from a historical perspective, the situation looks bleak: repeatedly through history technological breakthroughs have been followed by accelerated destruction of life on the planet. We argue, however, that there is a way forward, that there are historical precedents for technology being used for the true benefit of all.
Together, we will look at how wisdom and compassion, not just intelligence, are essential in guiding AI to care for all life.
