Shelagh Sutherland is established as one of Britain's leading and most versatile pianists. She enjoys a varied scheduled freelancing with the major London orchestras, particularly the Philharmonia and the London Sinfonietta, while also having a busy teaching schedule at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and teaching Alexander Technique at the University of Surrey and now at Guildhall. Shelagh enjoys teaching students of all ages and especially at City Lit, where there is a wonderfully supportive environment for both staff and students, encouraging genuine learning and passionate interest in a wide variety of subjects. She has taught year-long courses and summer-school short courses at City Lit since 2008 and also co-ordinated the keyboard department at Junior Guildhall since 1990. Shelagh has performed in all major British festivals including the Proms, and has toured Europe, the USA, Canada and South America. She has recorded many solos works for BBC Radio 3. As a scholar at the Royal Academy of Music, she qualified in piano, singing and violin and was awarded a British Council Research Scholarship to specialist in Czech music in Prague.

David Wallace studied the violin with Cornelia Zanidache, Susanne Stanzeliet and Maeve Broderick, harp with Bonnie Shaljean and composition with Dr. Rhona Clarke and Séamas de Barra. He has an MMus from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied composition with Richard Baker and Julian Philips. David has attended masterclasses/coachings with Hugh McGuire, Pal Banda, Robin Ireland, Constantine Zanidache, Andrew Fuller and Susie Meszaros on both violin and viola.
While at the Guildhall, David was selected to write a piece for the 125th anniversary celebrations and also won the schools’ then only composition prize, the Tracey Chadwell Memorial prize. He was Composition Fellow at the Guildhall for the academic year 2006/07. David was Hochtief Fellow in Composition in the Cork School of Music in Ireland from 2006 to 2008 where he also lectured in Composition and Orchestration. During 2010 he was appointed the school’s first Aloys Fleischmann Composer in Residence.
His music has been performed by both national and international artists in Europe, America and Asia such as: RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet, GSMD Symphony Orchestra, St Paul’s Sinfonia, The Syrius Piano Trio, The Contrasts Trio, Cork Symphony Orchestra, Macao Youth Wind Band, in such venues as: Barbican Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, GSMD Music Hall, Cultural Centre Macau, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Waikato University New Zealand, Ground Zero New York, The Place as well as many venues in Ireland and throughout London. His music has been performed as part of festivals such as City of London Festival and Hell Hot! in Hong Kong, as well as winning awards and acclaim internationally. He worked on the score for the English National Ballet production of The Snow Queen which was premiered on the West End.
He has been head of department in two schools (Reedham Park School, Walthamstow Hall Junior School) and taught violin/viola at JAGS, JASSPA, Walthamstow Hall School, Riddlesdown Collegiate and Cumnor House Boys School as well as privately. He has worked as a coach on SLYO and other residential orchestral courses and worked as orchestral leader for Farnborough Concert Orchestra, Regents Opera, Grovesnor Light Opera Society and London Gay Symphony Orchestra. He currently plays with Regents Opera, Northern Lights Symphony Orchestra, St Paul's Sinfonia and 2nd violin in the Aralt Quartet. He examines for ABRSM and is Head of Junior Music Courses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His music is published by Universal Edition.
