Are you looking for ways to avoid the dreaded,
“I’m BORED!” this summer?
I don’t know about you, but my youngest kid is turning her brains to mush by fiddling on her tablet or other screens WAY TOO MUCH! We are always looking for ways to encourage reading, deeper thoughts, strategizing, practicing her math, and reading things that aren’t Taylor Swift lyrics!
We’ve decided this summer is the time that we teach her to role-play. We thought it would be fun to teach other kids her age at the same time. And so, D&D Kids Camp was born!
Here’s our rough schedule:
-Monday-Introduction to Character Types, Race, and Character Building. Pick a Miniature for your character, pick a set of dice to play with and a dice bag, Paint Miniature.
-Tuesday-Finish painting miniature, work through a mock combat, work on character’s back story.
-Wednesday-Adventure #1 learn the ins and outs of playing in the Foreboding Forest. -Thursday-Adventure #2 find comfort, healing and resupply in the Forest City. They may even find their next quest.
-Friday: Adventure #3 The campers will experience their first Dungeon Crawl in search of treasure and glory.
Camp will run $120 and kids will receive a miniature, set of dice, dice bag, and an adventure journal. Some snacks and drinks will be provided each day or kids may pack their own.
Who is running the show?
Mark Craddock has been role playing since high school. He has DM’d thousands of games and taught hundreds of people to play. He has raised 4 kids and all of them love to role play and board game. He has been a play tester for Wizards of the Coast (the company that produces Dungeons & Dragons) since before 3rd edition released (they’re about to release 6th edition late this summer). He is patient, kind and creative and usually has a general idea about where the party is going to go but loves to roll with the punches and let the players' decisions guide the game and the adventure. It allows all the players to feel like they are leading the party.
