Join us at the dunes for a morning of coastal discovery and hands-on restoration. Learn how native plants build dune ecosystems, then help!
About this Event

Join SAMO Fund Field Institute and The Bay Foundation for a morning at the dunes! Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior for check in.

Begin the day with a Welcome Circle over local crafted tea, where you'll learn how dunes form and meet the native plants that build them, before rolling up your sleeves to spread native seed and help restore Santa Monica Beach's coastline for both people and wildlife.

We will meet at Marvin Braude Bike Trail, near 530 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, 90402 (see star on attached map)

Arrival instructions: Kindly arrive 10-15 min early to check in. We will meet near the ocean front walk path closest to Annenberg Beach House parking lot next to Back on the Beach Cafe (see orange star on map below). Look for The Bay Foundation flag, table and sandwich boards. TBF staff will be wearing blue long sleeve shirts with the TBF logo.

Parking

Paid parking is available. Nearest parking lot is at Lot 9 north, 530 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, 90402. Additional parking at Annenberg Community beach house Parking Lot, 415 Pacific Coast Hwy, Santa Monica, CA 90402. Cost $10-12.

Public Transit

Those traveling via public transit can utilize a variety of routes along 4th St or into Downtown Santa Monica and should then take the Montana Ave staircase toward the beach, heading north along the Ocean Front Walk. Those wishing to avoid stairs can also take the California Incline footpath.

Welcome Circle

Info: The day begins with tea and community at our welcome station, where participants can explore and learn about The Bay Foundation's restoration work and the native plants that call the sand dunes home. Discover what dunes are, how they form, and the plants that build them, dune plants don't just grow on dunes, they build them, all while sipping locally crafted tea. You'll leave this first part of the day with a grounded understanding of dune ecology and why this work matters for the health of coastal systems, for both humans and wildlife.
