About this Event
Champagne is the ultimate wine for celebration - especially with Christmas and Hogmanay approaching!
Champagne is made to incredibly strict rules, with just three main grapes (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier) grown only in the Champagne region of northern France and produced with not one but two fermentations - the second involving a long slow fermentation in bottles laid down in long cool cellars forming huge networks of underground passages. It's known as the traditional method - but it's an expensive process!
But what about other sparkling wines - can they ever be as good? And what about the huge differences between entry-level Champagne and those from the top producers?
In this tasting we will explore the different means of producing sparkling wine, tasting four top sparkling wines from other regions (but some using the traditional method) and four different Champagnes (including top producers, a rosé Champagne, and a genuine vintage Champagne).
The evening will end with a light supper of bread and specially selected French cheeses - and the chance to retaste the wines with the food.
There is no fixed charge for this event, but the event is arranged in support of the Scottish Refugee Council and in view of the special wines being served we suggest a donation of around £35/person if that is possible (but you are free to give more or less according to your circumstances).
Please note that a separate booking is needed for each person attending - so if you are booking two people please go through the booking process for each person. If you are booking for a guest please book with the name of the person attending - but you can give your own email if you would like the confirmation to come to yourself.
