This past summer, local pilot Randolph Beebe flew his bush plane solo across the Canadian wilderness in an attempt to trace the routes of legendary Northwest Passage explorers Samuel Hearne, John Franklin, and George Back. Randy's trip covered over 4800 miles and took 18 days. Along with photos documenting his remarkable journey, Randy will relate the storied history of these early explorers and the joys, logistics, and challenges of flying in this remote Arctic region.About our presenter:
Randolph Beebe is a retired airline pilot with a life-long interest in history, archeology, and exploring. He has paddled, peddled, backpacked, and used scuba to visit historic sites and shipwrecks all around the globe. Randy was also the leader of an expedition to search for the shipwrecks of a fleet of thirty-one 19th century whaling ships that were crushed in the ice and sank in the Alaskan Arctic. He now spends his time flying a 77-year-old Piper Cub into remote areas of northern Canada seeking out historical sites and retracing the footsteps of those who traveled there before us.
