Late winter and early spring can be a good time to observe ducks in Western Mass. With the snow and ice melting and longer, warmer days, both migrants passing through as well residents can often be seen. We will begin this program indoors with a powerpoint, introducing you to behaviors to identify ducks as divers or dabblers and ducks that can be seen in our area at this time. After the presentation we will then head outside for a walk of a mile in total on fairly flat terrain to find open water to look for ducks... as well as other birds we might see along the way. We never can tell what will be around, but often at this time we are able to see common and red-breasted mergansers, wood ducks, and perhaps green-winged teal or ring-necked duck.
