On Wednesday 9 September, Dub Me Always is pleased to present a night of deep roots and contemporary reggae when Soul Revivers join Mikey Drop Da Biscuit on the decks, plus at 8pm sharp, an album launch for Soul Revivers’ Holding It Down!
Formed in 2018, Soul Revivers is a collaborative project between David Hill of Swing & Dine and veteran reggae producer Nick Manasseh. In the mid-1990s Hill worked with Ashley Beedle in the Ballistic Brothers, co-founded Nuphonic and went on to work with Soul Jazz, Honest Jon’s and Acid Jazz; he currently co-hosts the monthly Swing & Dine reggae night at the Tabernacle and also runs the David Hill photographic gallery in Ladbroke Grove. Manasseh launched his sound system in 1985 and began producing music shortly thereafter, hosting an influential reggae show on Kiss FM at the same time. Working with a range of esteemed acts including Admiral Tibet, Earl 16, Danny Red and countless others, Manasseh has since become a festival favourite in diverse lands.
For many years, the reggae DJ duo of Rav Hi-Fi have made regular guest appearances at various venues, including the Deptford Dub Club and other revival nights; co-founder Mikey currently hosts the Drop Da Biscuit podcast, broadcasting deep-dive interviews with artists such as Susan Cadogan, Dandy Livingston, Phillip Fraser, Black Steel, and Myrna Hague. He also co-hosts regular reggae nights at the Fox and Firkin and other venues.
Released by Acid Jazz, Holding It Down features contributions from Jamaican legends Johnny Clarke, Earl 16, Vin Gordon and Susan Cadogan, as well as lover’s rock maven Sandra Cross and Sheila Maurice-Grey of Kokorko. Come early to take in some of the tracks and to grab a copy of the album at a special price! Expect rare vintage reggae on original 45s, alongside newer vinyl releases
