Dual Exhibition Openings for Timothy Manalo and Joey Quiñones

Come celebrate the exhibition openings of Timothy Manalo and Joey Quiñones in the galleries and meet the artists. Each artist will give a brief talk about their work at 6:30 PM.

Timothy Manalo: Many Eyes Wondering

Through his mold-making and textile practice Timothy Manalo presents a body of work that explores the meanings people ascribe to everyday objects along with the personal memories and stories they evoke. Drawing from the aesthetics of communal gatherings particularly through foodways and domestic spaces his installation of cast sculptures and weavings move between the familiar and the unfamiliar subtly playing with the viewer’s expectations. "Many Eyes Wondering" is an exhibition that invites audiences to consider what shapes their own realities.

Joey Quiñones: Maroon

In a new body of work mixed-media artist Joey Quiñones explores the layered meanings of the word "maroon.” It is a color a verb and the name of an enslaved individual who established communities in alliance with Indigenous individuals in the Caribbean. Imbued with the historical legacy of colonization and enslavement “Maroon” challenges notions of family femininity and belonging through domestic objects that have been transformed by memory tension and defiance.
