Drop-In Printmaking Workshop with Anneke Wilder

As part of UW Family Weekend, join local artist Anneke Wilder for this all-ages drop-in printmaking workshop inspired by the exhibitions on view. Learn the basics of block printing using a technique called linocut, and leave with your own unique creation!

Drawing from the deconstructed botanicals in Joiri Minaya: To Hell With Hibiscus and color-drenched abstractions in “Every Picture Somewhat of an Experiment”: Helen Frankenthaler Prints, enjoy this hands-on printmaking experience in conversation with two exhibitions which explore the expansive possibilities of the medium.

Bio
Anneke Wilder is an artist and illustrator currently based out of Olympia, WA. Her visual art is based in a desire to communicate the intricacies and complexity of life on earth, inspire curiosity and reflection, and cultivate devotion to our human and nonhuman communities. Raised in South Carolina, she received degrees in Biology and Studio Art, as well as a certificate in Natural Science Illustration from UW. She has participated in numerous artist residencies at the nexus of art and science and is a regular contributor to Hyldyr, a publication company that combines art, ecology, and folklore. She draws on her background in the sciences to create detailed watercolors that deal with themes of growth and decay—of our bodies, our culture, and our landscapes. She enjoys experimentation with natural pigments and teaches workshops on this topic with the University of Washington Botanic Gardens on a regular basis.
