Driving Miss Daisy auditions will be at the Adventure Space (2751 Civic Circle) on June 22-23 at 7:00 pm.
Whether you’re a veteran performer or you’ve never been on stage before but really want to try, we’d like to encourage you to audition for shows at ALT!
This play explores the unlikely friendship between a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow and her African-American chauffeur in the Deep South just prior to the start of the Civil Rights movement. A thoughtful and quiet Black man, Hoke is immediately treated with disdain by Miss Daisy. Unimpressed by his employer’s patronizing tone and her latent prejudice, the two slowly build a friendship that ends up lasting 25 years. Despite their many differences, the dignified and good-natured Hoke slowly and steadily breaks down Daisy’s stern defenses as she teaches him to read and write. In a gesture of good will and shared concern, she invites him to join her at a banquet in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama!
