  • Basic driver preparation
  • Steering
  • Accelerating and slowing down smoothly
  • Turning right at intersections
  • Turning left at intersections

The Driver’s Education Car - The college will provide a vehicle for students to use during their lessons. The vehicle is a 2015 Kia Optima four-door sedan. It is wrapped in “Student Driver” graphics to make other drivers aware that training is in progress. It is also equipped with a two-way camera to monitor the view ahead and the interior of the vehicle.

6-Hours BTWT - Comprises the instructor and one student at a time in two blocks of three hours. The Department of Driver Services requires that parents or guardians invest at least 40 hours of behind-the-wheel driving practice with their teens before taking their road test to get their license.

Lesson #1 - The first 15-30 minutes will cover the basics prior to any driving. The next 30-60 minutes will cover slower driving around the parking lot with some practice pulling in and out of parking spaces along with parallel parking. The remaining driving includes light to moderate traffic, stop signs, traffic signals, right and left turns, residential areas, and around town on roads with varying numbers lanes.

Lesson #2 - Student should expect more of how Lesson #1 ended along driving on a highway.
