Speaker: Prof. Pawel BECZKOWSKIPolyuria and polydipsia (PUPD) are commonly encountered in canine and less frequently in feline practice. Water intake of healthy dogs and cats varies considerably from day to day, and so it is crucial to quantify it accurately, and to confirm persistently low urine specific gravity before pursuing extensive diagnostic investigations.
This talk will outline complex interactions between the thirst center, the kidney, the pituitary gland, and the hypothalamus. Dysfunction in any of these areas will be discussed in context of individualized logical diagnostic approach to a patient with PUPD.
