Ottawa 2025 - WALL SPACE GALLERY + Framing presents two solo painting exhibitions: Drew Mosley’s “Biophilia” and Lori Richards “Seedbed”. Also Featured in February the art of Lee Stewart.
Drew Mosley | Biophilia Wall Space Gallery is proud to present a curated selection of works by Ottawa Artist Drew Mosley. Drew Mosley’s ability to capture narrative is impressive. He combines elements from his study of natural history mycology ancient civilizations and social evolution. His works tie together contemporary concerns of collapsing ecosystems hyper-consumerism and capitalism. Played out across Mosley’s canvases are stories of misguided notions of wealth and social status. In a world with an uncertain future the characters populating Mosley’s fairy-tale environments; owls rabbits foxes serpents and wolves offer examples of empathy community and reverence for nature. Mosley’s overall oeuvre speaks to a desire for an existence with greater environmental and social consciousness. Drew is driven by a self-described “artistic obsession” but also the need to create awareness for the environmental issues he sees as important. “I am always wanting to improve never satisfied and never done.”
The title for Drew’s show “Biophilia” is derived from a term coined by Harvard naturalist Dr. Edward O Wilson to describe humanity's "innate tendency to focus on life and lifelike processes" and to be drawn toward nature to feel an affinity for it a love a craving.
Lori Richards | Seedbed Wall Space Gallery is proud to present a curated selection of works by Kingston Artist Lori Richards. Lori graduated from Montreal’s Dawson College and with honours from The Ontario School of Art.
Dealing with themes of awareness and our emotional connections to nature Lori’s work predominantly depicts landscape that illuminate narrative and emotion. Lori draws inspiration from the natural world at home and further afield; searching for that ineffable magic genius loci - literally "the spirit of a place”
Lori describes the inspiration for her Solo exhibition The Seedbed: ”a bed of fine soil in which seedlings are germinated” Seedlings are about becoming. Breaking from dormancy they germinate develop and grow into plants. They rise from a subterranean world—like our human comprehension much of which occurs in our subconscious. Sleep allows access to the magic of our dreams and unconscious thought: I explore this in my work distilling and interpreting images experiences and emotions. Dots are connected new synapses created and ideas come to light. My paintings use symbols - beds birds owls dream bubbles moons stars and plants - to create worlds of mystery and understanding darkness and luminosity.
Lori’s solo exhibition will include collaboration with writer Suzanne Biro who has provided proses to accompany the artwork.
Feature Artist | Lee Stewart
Wall Space Gallery is proud to present a curated selection of works by Lee Stewart. Lee Stewart grew up in Kashechewan a fly-in community in Northern Ontario. He attended Carleton University in Ottawa for Film and Art History. He currently lives and works in Kingston Ontario. A self-taught artist Lee’s work explores the mind of a culture vulture. Using a palette influenced by the vibrant hues of Canada’s seasons the saturated images of the internet and the Old Masters he strives to bridge the traditional and contemporary to create a new liminal space. Through the curious mix of intuitive exploration source materials and its subsequent reimagining his art reflects a celebration of diverse narratives.
Lee’s paintings will be featured from Feb 8 until Feb 22 in the Gallery.
