Dream of Fairyland: Circus History in 1920's BC

Location: Heritage Church
Join author Kim Bannerman on a journey through entertainment history as she tells circus stories from 1920's British Columbia.
In 2020, Bannerman wrote the historical mystery 'Truly the Devil's Work', in which Rose the Tattooed Lady is accused of murder in Esquimalt, BC. Since then, the Circus Salmagundi series has grown to include six novels which follow the adventures of a nautical circus around Vancouver Island.
In her books, the Circus Salmagundi is based on a real travelling animal show which operated between 1916 and 1925, and which provided entertainment to remote coastal villages around the Salish Sea. At this presentation, learn more about the circus acts, musical bands, and sparkling personalities that inspired the characters in Bannerman's novels.
BIOGRAPHY:
Kim Bannerman lives and writes in Cumberland, BC. Her first historical mystery novel, 'Bucket of Blood', was written with the support of the Canada Council of the Arts, and her current project, the Circus Salmagundi mystery series, is deeply rooted in the local history of various Vancouver Island communities. For non-fiction anthologies, she was a contributor to 'When Birds are Near' (Cornell University Press, 2020), 'A Place Called Cumberland' (Figure One, 2024), and 'In the Company of Animals' (Nimbus Press, 2014).
