Are you ready to take your art to the next level?Have you ever dreamed of studying art abroad?
Dreaming of a Renaissance in Italy?
I have managed to secure spaces for artists at the De Giglio Arts Academy for an intensive full-time week of study under a Master Art Tutor in the Heart of Florence city. The focus will be on foundational drawing and painting techniques which could include water colour, gouache, acrylic and oils. You may also like to learn traditional methods such as Egg Tempera and Fresco painting. The classes will be tailored to our individual and group needs and our tutor will meet us where we are in our experience to enable us to learn and grow in our work individually.
While I believe that everyone can create art, regardless of experience or talent, doing it seriously and well requires a solid foundation not only in the basics of the principles and elements of art, but also the history and development of art as a practice.
This Masterclass Retreat is for artists who are looking to learn new skills & techniques to transform and enhance their current practice, and for those, like me, who are wanting to be reminded of and re-visit traditional fine art school teachings.
What’s Included:
• 10 Nights’ Accommodation at the Casa Santo Nome De Gesu
Once a 15th Century Medici Palace turned convent with a long-standing history in the city of Florence, this accommodation provides spacious twin or double rooms decorated in traditional Italian style, some rooms having original frescoes on the walls and ceilings. There are numerous relaxing reading rooms to enjoy the view over the Florentine rooftops or out over the glorious gardens that provide plenty of space for reflection and connection.
A lovely Italian style breakfast is served daily, and it is a close walk to cafes, restaurants and the supermarket. Comfortable & safe, the accommodation is situated in a quieter part of the city and only a short walking distance to the arts academy and all the other sites Florence has to offer.
• A week of study at the De Giglio Arts Academy tailored to our group. Daily Full-time study under the tuition of a master artist in the home of Renaissance Art. Learn foundational & traditional techniques that could include drawing (pencil, charcoal, graphite) and painting (oil, acrylic, gouache) and enhance your current art practice or offer new ways of working and seeing.
• Private Guided tour with an Art Historian to both the Gallery Academia and Uffizi Gallery – with time to study and draw in both locations. Learn from a local expert the ways and workings of the masters.
• Materials provided by the academy along with a Plein Air art pack including the primary and base colours of a Atelier Acrylic paints, Watercolours, Travel Sketch book, pens and brushes.
• Daily Draw & Discover lessons with award-winni g artist and teacher, Jassy Watson.
• Time will be included for artist debriefs and juicy arty conversations over coffee or wine with visits to other local galleries, studios and art supply stores.
• A day long plein air painting workshop with Jassy in the Gardens of Caso Santo Nome, bringing to life one of your sketches or studies from the week of study.
• First and Last Suppers.
• Time to explore, shop, eat, drink and perhaps discover more of Tuscany.
Not included:
• Flights
• Airport/train transfers on arrival and departure (if some participants arrive together, it is a good idea to share the ride, if I am travelling with any participants, I am happy to assist in arranging transfers)
• Tours and activities outside of what is listed as included
• Most lunches and dinners
• Travel insurance (a requirement to attend)
• Any tourist taxes imposed by the Italian government - currently a tourist tax is payable per guest, per room when vacating accommodation. Some well-known sites are also limiting tourists and are charging to see monuments and sites that were once free of charge.
