To celebrate our new exhibition 'Relative Ties' we are hosting an intimate workshop with artist Caroline Kent, founder of Scribble and Daub
About this Event

Luxuriate in the world of the remarkable Nicholson women artists with a curator led tour of the exhibition with Harriet Loffler, then learn the art of using a dip pen and ink to create beautiful illustrations, which will then be hand painted.

Guests will take home a traditional brass stitched box with a personalised label, containing a dip pen and nib, black Winsor & Newton drawing ink and eight cards & envelopes, each illustrated with their own beautiful designs.

Price includes coffee/tea and cake as well as all materials. Places are strictly limited.

Please advise us of any dietary requirements.

About Caroline Kent:
With a background as a curator of contemporary art, illustrator Caroline Kent founded stationery brand Scribble & Daub in 2012, to create stylish cards and paper goods for gifting, hosting and correspondence. She makes handcrafted, tangible products as a remedy to our increasingly digital world. Dubbed a ‘rebel-gardener’ in the New York Times, Caroline tends to the orchid-filled meadow adjacent to her East Sussex cottage, whilst making exquisite hand-painted stationery and prints, often inspired by nature and the flowers around her.

About Relative Ties:

Relative Ties celebrates over a century of artistic innovation and inheritance, tracing the work of four women from the celebrated Nicholson family — Mabel Nicholson, Nancy Nicholson, EQ Nicholson and Louisa Creed. The exhibition explores how creativity is woven together through three generations of women artists. Spanning a period of 100 years, Relative Ties brings together artworks, interior designs, illustrations, paper ephemera, drawings, wallpaper, fabrics, and stencils to offer a unique insight into the working lives of these artists. To accompany Relative Ties is a new commission by contemporary artist Katie Schwab (b.1985), whose work explores the relationships between generations of women and their shared creative approaches. Inspired by ribbons — a recurring motif in Nancy Nicholson’s designs — Schwab’s new installation reflects on the passing of time and how this can be traced through relative ties. More information on the exhibition can be found here. Relative Ties: Mabel Nicholson, Nancy Nicholson, EQ Nicholson and Louisa Creed | The Women's Art Collection
