Drawing | Undercurrents - Symposium at Trinity Buoy Wharf
About this Event
Join us for this one-day symposium held in assocation with the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London on Thursday 17 September from 11am to 5pm.
Drawing | Undercurrents will explore drawing and its place as a practice, and in its capacity to raise and address complex issues, feelings and different perspectives to the surface and into wider consciousness. The symposium offers an inclusive and dynamic exploration of drawing – that combines hearing from drawing experts and artists who have drawing at the heart of their practice - and will include active drawing sessions.
Convened by Anita Taylor the symposium will include presentations and drawing sessions led by a host of inspiring contributors, including Alice Angus, Siân Bowen, Chloe Briggs, Matthew Burrows MBE, M.Lohrum.
Following an introduction to the day, there will be two thematic discussion panels and a practical session based on themes associated to the 2026 exhibition, followed by a plenary discussion:
Session 1) Drawing presentations and discussions
Session 2) Practical drawing sessions led by presenters
Session 3) Drawing resentations and discussions
Drawing | Undercurrents builds on the series of one-day symposia, devised by Drawing Correspondence (Chloe Briggs, Tania Kovats, Anita Taylor) for the Royal Museums Greenwich in 2023, Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2024, and The John Ruskin Prize 2025, Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2025.
Please bring along your sketchbook, notebooks and dry drawing materials - and settle in for this immersive day exploring drawing in its many forms in the context of Trinity Buoy Wharf and the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2025 exhibition. There will be opportunity to visit the exhibition during the day.
The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 is open to the public at Trinity Buoy Wharf from Thursday 17th September - Sunday 4th October and is open daily from 11am to 6pm. Free entry.
A programme of events - including this symposium as well as drawing sessions and drawing discussions - accompany the exhibition and take place at Trinity Buoy Wharf and online. A special event for educators with Anita Taylor & Chloe Briggs follows on from this event and may be booked separately. There is a fully illustrated publication and education pack available.
